On 07/04/2026, I, Ptl. Drake, responded in normal patrol mode to the 2500-blk of Cherokee Ave in reference to an auto accident hit and run.
Upon arrival, I observed the aftermath of a head-on collision between a blue-in-color 2012 Ford Fusion (LA Tag: [REDACTED]) and a gray-in-color 2018 Ford Fiesta (GA Tag: [REDACTED]).
I made contact with the driver of the Fiesta, B/M [VICTIM #1], and he stated that he was traveling northbound on Cherokee Ave approaching Sylvester Hwy, when the driver of the Fusion traveling southbound on Cherokee Ave, H/M Macario Cantu-Quiroz, veered into his side of the street and hit his vehicle head-on. [VICTIM #1] then stated that the driver of the other vehicle stopped for a brief moment, looked back to observe the aftermath, then fled the scene, continuing southbound on Cherokee Ave. [VICTIM #1] stated that he began to chase behind the vehicle on foot, then located the vehicle under a carport at [2500 BLOCK] Cherokee Ave. [VICTIM #1] advised that he and his wife, B/F [VICTIM #2], were both in the vehicle at the time of the collision, but stated that they had no injuries.
Macario was soon located at [2500 BLOCK] Cherokee Ave, leaning out of the vehicle. Macario was placed into double-locked handcuffs to the front, searched for any weapons/contraband, yielding negative results, and placed into the back of patrol vehicle 19-013. Macario was then transported back to the scene.
I then made contact with Macario, and utilizing Ptl. Estrada for Spanish translation, he stated that he did not remember the incident. Macario then admitted to having two beers, then driving his vehicle. I observed that Macario had a slurred speech and glossy eyes.
Macario was read the implied consent notice in English and Spanish to give him the choice to consent to a breathlyzer test. Macario agreed to take the test. Macario was transported to the Dougherty County Jail and turned over to the jail staff. Upon arriving at the jail, I secured my department-issued firearm in the trunk of the patrol vehicle.
During the intake process, Macario was asked in English to blow into the breathalyzer machine. Due to the language barrier, Macario did not understand and could not give a breathalyzer result. Upon leaving the jail, I checked the backseat for any additional items, yielding negative results.
Macario was issued citations for DUI-Alcohol Less Safe (Citation No. G0068714), Hit and Run (Citation No. G0068715), and No Insurance (Citation No. G0068716).
A DUI form was completed, and Macarios license was taken up. A NCIC/GCIC check was conducted on all parties for warrants, yielding negative results.
This case is cleared by arrest.
