On 09/01/2025, we, Ptl. Smith and Ptl. Q. Davis, responded in normal mode to [500 BLOCK] Florence Dr in reference to a shooting.
Upon arrival, with weapons drawn, we observed several shell casings and a bag containing a green leafy substance on the ground in front of [500 BLOCK] Florence Dr. A silver Kia Forte was also observed with its front end on the curb. We checked the surrounding vehicles for a possible suspect with negative results.
I, Ptl. Smith, knocked on the front door of [500 BLOCK] Florence Dr with negative results. I then remained at the front of the residence to secure the scene while Ptl. Q. Davis and other officers made entry through the back door, which was wide open. The residence was cleared for any possible victims or suspects, with negative results. While inside, Ptl. Q. Davis observed several small shell casings on the floor.
Following the interior sweep, I canvassed the surrounding area, including the alleyway between Julia Ave and Mary Ave, in reference to locating any victims or suspects, but negative results were met. No blood was observed at the scene.
Several cameras were observed in the immediate area, including a camera on the front of [500 BLOCK] Florence Dr.
While on scene, contact was made with [WITNESS #1] at [500 BLOCK] Florence Dr. [WITNESS #1] advised he did not witness the shooting but heard several gunshots. He confirmed he did not have cameras at his residence.
The shell casings and the bag containing a green leafy substance were marked with white evidence placards prior to IDENT’s arrival. The scene was secured with crime scene tape and a visible officer presence.
During the course of the investigation, a subject identified as Moore was taken into custody by Sgt. Sherman and placed in Ptl. Bazinet’s patrol vehicle. Moore was later transported to the Investigations Division for further questioning.
Sgt. Sherman, Sgt. Billsby, Sgt. Jones, SIU, and several investigators were notified and responded on scene. Lt. Freeman was also notified and responded.
