On 07-03-2025 I was requested by Douglasville Police Department to respond to a multiple vehicle crash on I-20 east near Mile Marker 37. While en route to the crash, I was notified by dispatch, Douglasville Police Department had been working the crash for approximately over an hour and requested my assistance after discovering a law enforcement officer and vehicle was involved in the crash.
I arrived on scene and was notified by DPD officers a driver that was involved in the crash was transported to Douglas Wellstar and was too in too critical of a condition to be air lifted. The driver was identified as [VICTIM #1].
During my crash investigation, I spoke with the at-fault driver, Alexis Friendly. I noticed when speaking to her she had urinated herself. I also detected the odor of an alcoholic beverage coming from her breath. Her eyes were bloodshot and watery.
I asked Alexis if she had been consuming alcoholic beverages, and she responded she had a rum punch at a Chili’s restaurant prior to the crash and was en route home. I confirmed with her the vehicle she had used was her departmental vehicle, and she was POST certified.
I requested to perform a standardized field sobriety evaluations to which Alexis agreed.
I had Alexis walk with me to the front of my patrol car in view of my Watchguard camera.
After asking Alexis the necessary medical questions to determine if she was able to complete an SFST evaluations, I began administering a SFST evaluations.
See DUI tab.
Alexis consented to a breath sample for my issued PBT which displayed a positive reading for alcohol.
Alexis was placed under arrest and read Georgia’s Implied Consent Notice For Suspects Age 21 and Over. Alexis responded with a verbal yes for a blood test.
She was then placed inside the rear seat of my patrol vehicle. I transported Alexis to the Douglas County Jail where 10-8 forensics completed the blood draw. Alexis was then transported to Douglas Wellstar to be medically cleared to be admitted to the jail. After Alexis was cleared, she was then transported to the Douglas County Jail. I was advised later during the investigation, [VICTIM #1] was airlifted to the Kennestone Hospital in Atlanta.
On 07-07-2025 I spoke to a representative of Kennestone regarding [VICTIM #1] condition. I was informed [VICTIM #1] was in a critical state and had no brain activity. I was also informed the Hospital was attempting to get in contact with family members of [VICTIM #1] for permission on how to move forward.
I was able to contact [VICTIM #1] workplace and informed his supervisor of the incident and situation. I gave him the means to contact the Kennestone Hospital to speak to the representative due to all of [VICTIM #1] family members living outside of the United States.
