I was called to Station 2, 2900 Conners RD, for a traffic complaint. I met with Mrs. [WITNESS #1], she had been driving Medic 5. Mr. [WITNESS #2] was in the back of Medic 5 with a patient that was being transported to Tanner Villa Rica. Mrs. [WITNESS #3] was driving QRV2 following them. Mrs. [WITNESS #1] and Mrs. [WITNESS #3] advised that as they were entering I20 West from Post RD they saw a black SUV coming up in the center lane, but it it was pretty far back. Mrs. [WITNESS #3] advised that the Medic truck entered the highway. Mrs. [WITNESS #3] advised that all of a sudden the black SUV was right next to her trying to stop her from merging onto the highway. Mrs. [WITNESS #1] and Mrs. [WITNESS #3] both advised that the SUV had to have sped up to get up to where they were.
Mrs. [WITNESS #1] and Mrs. [WITNESS #3] advised that the black SUV continued to stay near both vehicles while going to Liberty RD. Mrs. [WITNESS #3] advised that the SUV cut her off several times and hit its breaks multiple times while in front of her. Mrs. [WITNESS #1] and Mrs. [WITNESS #3] advised that the SUV was riding the bumper of Medic 5 and almost hitting both vehicles. Mr. [WITNESS #2] advised that he saw this going on out the rear windows of Medic 5 and even the patient commented that the SUV was going to wreck them.
As Medic 5 approached Liberty RD exit, the SUV got next to it and would not allow it into the number three lane to exit. Mrs. [WITNESS #3] followed the SUV to the next exit to get the plate number. They advised it was a female driving the SUV. The tag was GA [REDACTED]. It comes back to a 2019 black Land Rover.
I spoke to Chief Shelton on the phone. Chief Shelton advised me the following. The person driving the SUV was probably the wife of one of the Douglas County Fire Departments Chiefs. Chief Shelton advised that no one at Station 2 knows this information, but that Chief and his wife are going through a difficult separation and need to have supervised meetings. Chief Shelton advised that the wife has done things like this toward Fire vehicles before. Chief Shelton advised that the wife had left one of these supervised meetings shortly before Medic 5 and QRV 2 had gotten on I 20. Chief Shelton advised that the wife may have thought her husband was driving the QRV vehicle because it is a Ford truck and looks like the truck her husband drives. Chief Shelton advised that he would get a copy of the Medic 5 video burned for evidence.
I asked Mrs. [WITNESS #1] and Mrs. [WITNESS #3] if it seemed like the SUV was being more aggressive toward the QRV truck or Medic vehicle. It did appear the SUV had been more focused on the QRV vehicle. Mrs. [WITNESS #3] advised that the female driver of the SUV was flipping her off. Mrs. [WITNESS #3], Mrs. [WITNESS #1] and Mr. [WITNESS #2] advised they would complete written statements for the report.
I emailed Chief Shelton with the case number and requested the name of the Fire Chief and his wife that are in the altercation. I have not yet herd back from Chief Shelton at this time.
The SUV comes back to a male named [REDACTED] out of West Point.
