On 05/07/2026 at approximately 1500 hours, I observed the driver, later identified as Hairston, Demond, driving a silver in color Buick on State Route 5 at the intersection of the I-20 bridge. I observed Mr. Hairston was holding his cellular phone while driving in the number 2 lane on the I-20 bridge.
I then conducted a traffic stop on the vehicle and advised Hairston of the reason for the stop. Hairston provided me with his driver’s license, at which point he was checked through GCIC/NCIC. The GCIC/NCIC return revealed Mr. Hairston was wanted out of Douglas County for theft by conversion. Mr. Hairston was detained for warrant confirmation. The Troop D Radio Room confirmed the warrant.
Mr. Hairston was then searched and put in the rear passenger area of my patrol vehicle. Mr. Hairston was transported to the Douglas County Jail. Mr. Hairston was turned over to the jail’s staff.
Mr. Hairston’s vehicle was turned over to his wife, [REDACTED], at his request.
