DOUGLAS COUNTY, Ga. – A former cemetery employee in Douglas County has been sentenced to prison after admitting she sold burial plots to grieving families that were either fake or already owned by someone else.
Pamela Denise Teal pleaded guilty to several charges, including identity fraud, forgery and theft by deception. A judge sentenced her to 20 years, with seven years to be served in prison before she becomes eligible for probation.
Investigators said Teal took advantage of families during their time of grief while working at Mozley Memorial Gardens. She would offer to assist them with funeral arrangements, only to defraud them.
According to sources, one family learned the plot they purchased didn’t belong to them and that the documents Teal provided were forged.
The Douglas County Sheriff’s Office charged Teal earlier this year, saying multiple victims were involved in the case. She was denied bond in March 2025.
On Wednesday, Teal was sentenced to serve time in prison.
Authorities are urging anyone who may have worked with her to contact the sheriff’s office, as they believe there could be additional victims.
A restitution hearing for Teal is scheduled for May.
