Editorial Standards

The Georgia Gazette covers Georgia crime news with one guiding principle: deliver the facts and let readers decide what matters. We do not editorialize, sensationalize, or filter what we believe is newsworthy. We report all of it.

Our Sources

Every claim we publish is verified through public records obtained via the Georgia Open Records Act. We do not publish rumors or speculation.

Story leads sometimes come from third parties, but the verification process is the same. A tip may point us toward a story, but we only publish what we can confirm through official documentation.

Accuracy Over Speed

We do not have a breaking news department. We do not race to be first. Every piece of content goes through a three-person review process before publication. Our priority is being right, not being fast.

Language and Presumption of Innocence

We never state or imply that someone is guilty. Our reporting uses precise language: “accused of,” “arrested for,” “charged with.” These are facts. Guilt is determined by a court, not a newsroom.

Verbatim Reporting

When we publish police narratives, we reproduce them verbatim. We do not paraphrase, interpret, or reframe the language used by law enforcement. This eliminates the opportunity for editorial bias to enter our reporting. Spelling and grammatical errors in the original document are left intact and noted.

Concise Reporting

We respect your time. Our stories are deliberately concise and free of filler. We do not pad articles to increase time on page. You get the facts you need without scrolling through paragraphs of commentary.

Comprehensive Coverage

We do not pick and choose which arrests to report based on what we think will get clicks or what we believe is “important enough.” We publish all arrests because you deserve access to the same public information regardless of where you live or who you know.

Corrections

Our three-person review process makes errors rare, but not impossible. When we make a mistake, we correct it immediately. If the affected party requests a formal retraction, we will publish one. Some individuals prefer a quiet correction to avoid drawing additional attention – we honor that preference as well.

Errors sometimes originate from the agency that provided the public record. In those cases, we ask that the agency contact us directly with the corrected information, and we will update our reporting accordingly.

To report a potential error, email Support@TheGeorgiaGazette.com or use our contact form.

Independence

The Georgia Gazette is funded by advertisements and subscriptions. Advertisers do not influence our coverage. We make this clear before entering any advertising relationship: you do not get a say in what we report or how we report it. We have walked away from advertising deals before and will do so again if editorial pressure is applied.

Our subscribers never see ads. When readers support us directly, we don’t need advertisers who might want something in return.

Staff Neutrality

Our journalists are free to hold personal opinions and engage in personal activities on their own time. When working under The Georgia Gazette byline, all staff maintain strict neutrality. Our reporting contains facts only – no spin, no bias, no editorial voice.

Staff members may decline to work on any story for any reason, including personal connections or sensitive subject matter. This ensures that every story is handled by someone who can approach it objectively.

These standards reflect how we operate today. We reserve the right to update them at any time without notice as our practices evolve.
