Beginning the above date and time while on patrol I responded to a report of a physical domestic.
Upon my arrival with Sgt West and Cpl Hutto, I observed a female walking in the street on Caribbean Village Dr. I made contact with the female who appeared very intoxicated, slurring her speech and stumbling more into the street during the encounter. The female later identified as Gina Martin, stated she called 911 because of her ex husband grabbing her by the throat during an argument about them losing the home. It was very difficult to gather a statement from Gina as she was intoxicated and would not provide many details about what happened.
Gina began to walk more and more into the street after being told multiple times not to for safety, however, Gina ignored us and walked into the street more outside of [100 BLOCK] Caribbean Village Dr. Myself and Cpl Hutto attempted to detain Gina and she pulled away from us multiple times and tried swinging her body around nearly striking us. Due to Gina’s behavior, I placed her in handcuffs after forcing her hands behind her back before making contact with the other half of the domestic.
I made contact with the ex-husband identified as [VICTIM #1], who stated him and Gina were talking about how they were losing the home while upstairs in the bathroom. [VICTIM #1] stated he told Gina some uncomfortable truths regarding the situation with their home and Gina became very upset, crying in the bathroom. [VICTIM #1] left the bathroom but returned soon after hearing Gina crying. While checking on Gina, she became angry upon seeing him and began swinging her fists at him.
[VICTIM #1] further stated he was able to block the first couple of punches with his arms but Gina did not let up on striking his head and body. [VICTIM #1] stated he assisted Gina to the ground by grabbing her arms and holding her down so she could not strike him. Once Gina calmed down, [VICTIM #1] let go of her and entered his bedroom while she exited the home.
Neither [VICTIM #1] or Gina had any visible injuries while on scene. While speaking with [VICTIM #1], Gina yelled profanities while detained by my patrol unit even after being told to stop by Sgt West. Due to Gina’s behavior and [VICTIM #1]’s statement, she was placed under arrest for simple battery FVA.
While attempting to place Gina in the rear of the patrol uni, she became more irate and attempted to kick us while effecting the arrest. I assisted Sgt West with guiding Gina to the ground to restrain her from active resistance. Once Gina stopped resisting, we helped her up to place her in the rear of my patrol unit.
While attempting to place Gina back in my patrol unit, she began resisting again, trying to pull away and stop us from placing her in the back seat. Once in the backseat, Gina began kicking the door of the patrol unit very hard, so I assisted units in placing Gina in a hobble device to further secure her legs and handcuffs.
Once secured, I transported Gina to the Effingham County Jail where she continued to kick the back door while yelling profane language. Gina was booked in by the on duty booking officer for the above related charges, warrants will be applied for accordingly.
