On April 22, 2026, at approximately 01:43 hours, while on uniform patrol, I was dispatched to [10 BLOCK] Walnut Way, Rincon, Georgia, 31326. Caller advised dispatch that her ex-husband was attempting to shoot her friend.

I activated my lights and sirens, responding code to the address. When I arrived, I activated my take down lights and could see a black male, later identified as PETERSON DUPERVIL, standing at the back driver’s side corner of a white truck, parked in the driveway. He was looking toward the house. At the house, I could see a black female later identified as [VICTIM #1], standing in the front doorway.

As I exited my vehicle, I yelled out where the gun was. PETERSON called out saying he had a gun while walking towards me. I called out to him to put his hands up and turn around, with my duty weapon at the low ready and he complied. I told him we were going to wait until other officers arrived. He said okay. Officer MCGUIGAN arrived and removed the weapon from PETERSON’S side. PETERSON was detained in handcuffs. PETERSON stated the male inside the home also had a gun.

I walked towards the porch with my weapon at the low ready. I asked who else had a gun. A male later, identified as [VICTIM #2], stepped out the front door with his hands up. He said he had the gun but it was in the house now. Sgt. ETZLE secured [VICTIM #2] in handcuffs. I went up and talked to [VICTIM #1], who was still standing at the door.

I asked [VICTIM #1] what happened. She stated she and her husband PETERSON were separated and getting a divorce. She told me [VICTIM #2] is a friend and had come to the house tonight. She said she was doing things around the house and [VICTIM #2] was in the bedroom sleeping in the bed. She stated she heard a sound at the back of the house and found PETERSON at the back door. She stated she told PETERSON to leave, but he told her he would kick the door in if she didn’t open it. She stated he then kicked the back door in. I asked to see it and she took me through the house to the back door.

While walking to the back, I saw a gun laying on the couch. [VICTIM #1] stated that was her gun, and the one [VICTIM #2] had. Sgt. ETZLE came in and secured the gun. When we got to the back door, I found it half open with splintered and damaged wood on the frame, with parts of the frame on the floor. I also saw the outline of a shoe print on the door. Photos of the door were taken before leaving the scene, and uploaded to Evidence.com.

[VICTIM #1] said PETERSON came in the house after kicking the door demanding to know who was in the house. She said he pushed her out of the way and went to the bedroom. She stated she followed him. [VICTIM #1] told me once in the bedroom PETERSON began yelling at [VICTIM #2], he then produced the a tan Palmetto State Armory, Dagger Micro, .9mm, tan handgun, Serial Number: JD921505 and hit [VICTIM #2] in the head with it.

She told me she began arguing with PETERSON and [VICTIM #2] was able to get away. She said [VICTIM #2] went out of the room and came back with her firearm, a black, Smith and Wesson .9mm, Serial Number: NEH6724. She said when PETERSON saw him with the gun, he exited the home and she called the police. I noted that the bed was in slight disarray.

I went outside and spoke with [VICTIM #2]; he was removed from handcuffs first. Emergency Medical Services had been called by other units on scene; [VICTIM #2] was being checked out by Rincon Fire Department. Once that was done, I asked [VICTIM #2] what happened. He stated he and [VICTIM #1] were friends. He said he had asked her if there were any men in her life and she had told him no. He said he was called off of work tonight, so he asked her if she was doing anything. He said she told him no, so he came over. He stated he got tired and [VICTIM #1] let him lay on the bed to sleep.

[VICTIM #2] stated while he was sleeping, he was woken up because he could hear a commotion at the back of the house. He said he was groggy when PETERSON came into the room with a gun demanding to know who he was. [VICTIM #2] stated PETERSON jumped on top of him on the bed, grabbed his neck with one hand, and hit him on the head with a gun in the other hand. He told me PETERSON then tried to strike him again with the none gun hand. [VICTIM #2] stated he was extremely scared and thought he was going to die.

I asked how he got off the bed. [VICTIM #2] said [VICTIM #1] came over and began arguing with PETERSON, which allowed him to get away. He said he went towards the kitchen because he does not know the house well. [VICTIM #2] said when he got to the kitchen, he remembered seeing a gun on top of the refrigerator. He said he had got the gun and walked back to the bedroom. [VICTIM #2] stated when PETERSON saw him coming, he ran out of the house. [VICTIM #2] said 911 was then called.

I next went and talked to PETERSON who was secured in Officer MCGUIGAN’S vehicle. When I got to PETERSON gave him his Meranda Rights and asked if he understood them, and if he was willing to speak with me. He said yes to both questions. I asked him what happened.

PETERSON stated his son notified him, saying his mother had told him not to go into her room and stay upstairs. PETERSON said he drove over to the house and saw a vehicle in the driveway he did not recognize. He told me he went to the back of the home and tried to go through a window, but [VICTIM #1] found him. He said he told her to open the door but she did not, so he kicked it in. He said he went to the bedroom and found [VICTIM #2] in the bed. He stated they got into a tussle. I asked if he had hit him with the gun. He said yes. He said [VICTIM #2] left the room and he heard a sound in the kitchen. The sound PETERSON described was that of a gun racking.

I asked PETERSON if he lives at the home. He said it is both of there homes. I asked if he stays there. He said no, he had not for around 2 months. I asked if he and [VICTIM #1] were still married. He said they were. I asked why he didn’t live at the home anymore. He said arguments. I asked why he was going through the window and didn’t use a key. He stated he had given his key to his son the day before. PETERSON had provided [100 BLOCK] Oak St. in Rincon as his address.

[VICTIM #1] was asked if PETERSON was living at the home. She said no and they had two houses and he had been living at the other house for a while now. She told Officer MCGUIGAN that PETERSON had not had a key to the house for a long time. She stated he was not on the mortgage but is listed as a resident. [VICTIM #1] provided the name [JUVENILE #1] for her son, who she said was seven (7) years old. I asked if he had witnessed anything that happened. She said no, he was upstairs and is still asleep. Due to his age I did not interview [JUVENILE #1].

Sgt. ETZLE took photos of [VICTIM #2]’S injuries and uploaded them to Evidence.com. His injuries included a lump on the left side of his head, with a laceration in the middle. He also had an abrasion on the left side of his neck. Sgt. ETZLE told me that when he cleared the firearms the Palmetto State Armory Dagger Micro (PETERSON’S) had a round in the chamber. He stated the Smith and Wesson ([VICTIM #2]’S) did not have a round in the chamber. Both firearms were run through GCIC / NCIC and found to have no wants. The Smith and Wesson was returned to [VICTIM #1]. The Palmetto State Armory Dagger Micro was logged into the evidence room.

PETERSON was charged with Aggravated Assault O.C.G.A. 16-5-21, Home Invasion in the First Degree O.C.G.A. 16-7-5, Burglary 1st O.C.G.A 16-7-1(b), Criminal Trespass Family Violence Act O.C.G.A. 16-7-21, and Simple Battery Family Violence Act O.C.G.A. 16-5-20. Officer MCGUIGAN transported PETERSON to the Effingham County Jail, where he was booked on his charges.
