The following was taken from a press release distributed by the Richmond County Sheriff’s Office on February 23, 2024:
RICHMOND COUNTY, Ga. – On February 20, 2024, the Richmond County Sheriff’s Office was notified by the Coroner’s Office of the death of Chong Chon (74 yoa) which resulted from a head injury she sustained on January 24, 2024 while working at the Get It to Go store located at 3232 Deans Bridge Road.
The Criminal Investigation Division immediately began investigating this incident and learned Chon attempted to stop two females and a male juvenile from shoplifting a 12 pack of beer.
The male juvenile pushed Chon causing her to fall to the floor and hit her head. The subjects fled the store and Chon went to the hospital where she would succumb to her injury on February 20, 2024.
On February 23, 2024, the Criminal Investigation Division was able to identify the male juvenile as thirteen-year-old Antonio Cyrail Williams (Augusta, GA) and charged him with Murder While in Commission of a Felony. Due to the active criminal investigation, no further information will be released.
