COBB COUNTY, Ga. – According to the Cobb County Police Department, a 15-year-old juvenile who was struck by a vehicle on Clay Road on March 20, 2024, succumbed to his injuries on March 29. The victim, Braden Davis, was a South Cobb High School student on his way to school.

The police department’s Special Operations S.T.E.P. (Selective Traffic Enforcement Program) Unit is actively investigating the collision; however, police said no one will face charges. Officials determined that at approximately 8:42 AM, a 2021 Kia Rio driven by 22-year-old Marietta man Yenny Roque-Baza was traveling east on Clay Road.

The Rio crossed Austell Road on a green traffic signal, and upon reaching the eastern side of Clay Road, Davis stepped into the road directly in the vehicle’s path. The front of the car collided with Davis’ left side, propelling him into the westbound lane of Clay Road.

Emergency medical personnel arrived and transported Davis to Wellstar Kennestone Hospital via ambulance.

Davis’ mother created a GoFundPage account to help with burial and family expenses. The page describes Davis as “a fun-spirited and adventurous kid” who was a “real-life superhero” to his younger brother and sisters.

His family expressed finding solace in his organ and tissue donation, which helped to save and improve numerous lives. “The ripples of his good act will continue for many, many years to come.”

At the time of the crash, a Cobb County School District spokesperson stated, “This morning, a student was hit by a vehicle after stepping in the road on the way to school. We appreciate the quick response of Cobb County Police. Our thoughts are with the student.”
