2 dead after being shot by Forsyth deputies while serving warrant for wanted sex offender, GBI says

The following was taken from a press release distributed by the Georgia Bureau of Investigation on July 17, 2024:

Update: The two people that died in the officer involved shooting have been identified as Joshua Everett Emmett, age 45, of Alto, GA and Meagan Victoria Feaster, age 33, of Forsyth, GA.

BANKS COUNTY, Ga. – At the request of the Banks County Sheriff’s Office, GBI agents are investigating an officer involved shooting in Alto, Banks County, Georgia. Two people died in the incident. No deputies were injured in the incident.

Preliminary information indicates at about 9:30 a.m., Forsyth County Sheriff’s Office deputies were at a home on Cedar Drive in Alto to serve an arrest warrant.

At about 11:05 a.m., Forsyth County deputies entered the home. During the incident, deputies shot two people. They both died at the scene.

Banks County Sheriff’s Office deputies were also at the scene to provide support, but were not directly involved in the incident.

A GBI Medical Examiner will perform an autopsy on the two people who died in the incident.  The identities of the two that died will be released after the families are notified.

The GBI will continue to conduct an independent investigation. Once the investigation is complete, it will be given to the Banks County District Attorney’s Office for review.
