FULTON COUNTY, Ga. – A 37-year-old Atlanta mother is facing murder charges after investigators say she intentionally gave her 2-month-old son alcohol, leading to the infant’s death.

Omayrilin Colon appeared in bond court Friday, where she waived her first appearance. A judge ruled that she will be held without bond. Colon is charged with murder and first-degree cruelty to children, according to court records.

Atlanta police and paramedics were called to an apartment on Perry Boulevard in October after reports of an unresponsive infant. The baby was rushed to Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta at Scottish Rite, where he was pronounced dead. Investigators said there were no immediate signs of physical trauma, prompting an autopsy and toxicology testing.

Those results revealed the infant’s blood-alcohol concentration was .179 — more than twice the legal limit for an adult. Medical examiners determined the alcohol was ingested directly from a bottle and not transferred through breast milk. According to investigators, Colon admitted she prepared the bottle the baby drank. Police say evidence shows alcohol was intentionally placed into the bottle, causing fatal alcohol poisoning.

A public defender representing Colon declined to comment following the hearing. The case remains under investigation.
