Warning: The following report describes alleged sexual violence.
GWINNETT COUNTY, Ga. – Three men accused of raping a woman at gunpoint and forcing her boyfriend to witness the assault were found guilty of aggravated sodomy, armed robbery, and rape, with a sentencing hearing scheduled for Monday, October 28, 2024.
Authorities said the crimes occurred at approximately 2:00 AM on July 21, 2021, at the Duluth apartment complex, The Falls. The three suspects, 21-year-old Daquain R. Livingston, 18-year-old Dashawn Andrettie Harris, and 20-year-old Elijah Nil Curney, along with a fourth suspect, a convicted co-defendant, discovered the couple in two vehicles parked side-by-side in a complex parking lot.
With firearms pointed at the victims, the four men threatened to “blow” the female’s “brains out” if they attempted to retaliate. Following the sexual assault, the couple escaped and called 911 as the group combed through the vehicles for items to steal.
The descriptions the victims provided matched Ring doorbell security footage captured from a nearby home. Additionally, a rape kit performed on the female victim matched one of the suspects, Curney, and fingerprints found inside the vehicles matched another suspect, Harris.
About 30 days after the attack, police arrested Curney when they conducted a traffic stop and discovered a stolen firearm in his vehicle. During an interrogation, Curney provided a partial identification of the other suspects, leading investigators to make further connections via his social media and cellular phone contacts.
Gwinnett County District Attorney Patsy Austin-Gatson stated, “This is a despicable crime that absolutely could not go unchecked. The trauma these defendants inflicted on the victims is unimaginable, and these three men deserve to be punished to [the] fullest extent of the law.”
