COBB COUNTY, Ga. – A 9-month-old girl was shot and killed near a Cobb County motel Tuesday night, authorities said.
Cobb County police said they were called to the area of Circle 75 Parkway and Windy Hill Road around 8 p.m. after receiving reports of gunfire. The location is near several motels, including Budgetel Inns & Suites and the Western Inn.
When officers arrived, they were met by the child’s mother, who told them her daughter had been struck by gunfire. Police said the infant was “beyond lifesaving measures” and pronounced dead at the scene.
Neighbors and witnesses described hearing multiple gunshots and later seeing a distraught woman screaming outside the motel. Some recalled seeing the baby earlier in the day.
Investigators briefly detained two men in the area, though one was later released. As of Wednesday, no suspects had been identified or charged.
Authorities have not said what led to the gunfire or whether the child’s family was staying at the motel.
The investigation is ongoing, and police have not released the name of the infant.
