Acworth officer attacked, injured by naked man at Deerfield Lodge, police say

The following was taken from a press release distributed by Acworth Police Department:

Cobb County (December 21, 2022) – On December 18, 2022, officers responded to 6055 Lake Acworth Drive, the business of Deerfield Lodge in reference to a welfare check.

Officers were informed that there was a naked male running around Deerfield Lodge while screaming. As the first officer arrived on scene, it become known that the suspect had assaulted other guests. As the initial officer made contact with the subject, later identified as Kelly Michael Holcomb (37 Y/O W/M of Dallas, GA), Holcomb turned his aggression towards the initial officer.

A fight ensued and during the physical confrontation, Holcomb struck the officer and attempted to strangle the officer. The officer requested for additional assistance and as other officers arrived on scene, the subject continued to assault other responding officers.

Several force options were used to include a taser and after numerous of attempts to gain compliance of Holcomb, Metro EMS arrived on scene and administered a sedative to calm Holcomb. Holcomb was transported to Kennestone Hospital and later released and to the Cobb County Adult Detention Center on December 20. Several victims were injured during this incident to include an Acworth Police Officer. All victims were treated and released. The Acworth Police Officer is expected to return to work this week.

Holcomb was charged with the following due to this incident: 1) Aggravated Assault – O.C.G.A. 16-5-21 2) Battery – O.C.G.A. 16-5-24 3) Burglary – Forced – O.C.G.A. 16-7-1 4) Obstruction of Law Enforcement Officers – O.C.G.A. 16-10-24 5) Damage to Property 2nd Degree (Business) – O.C.G.A. 16-7-23
