Gordon County (December 9, 2022) – An Adairsville mother called 911 from a local hospital to report her neighbor for assaulting her young son in the man’s driveway and touching her young daughter inappropriately. The neighbor, who occasionally stayed with the children overnight while their mother worked and picked them up from school, was arrested.
According to reports, Wesley Scott Cook, 36, was shown on video from the mother’s home security cameras wrestling with the boy before pinning him against Cook’s truck. Cook then grabbed the boy by the waist and slammed him down on the concrete driveway. The boy struck his head on the pavement.
Cook told police he drove the boy and his sister to Tractor Supply to run an errand and said he told the boy to “quit his shit” after the children knocked over items in the store. Cook claimed the boy hurt his sister by shoving her, which caused the items to fall.
He stated to police that upon arriving home, he had told both children to stay in the truck so that he could speak with them. The boy refused, and when he tried to leave, Cook pinned him against the truck and then grabbed him as he tried to walk away. The male child told Cook to stop touching him, to which Cook replied he “could touch him if he wanted to.” The child could be heard on video saying, “don’t touch me,” and “get off me!” as Cook pinned him down. The boy said he elbowed Cook in the face, at which point Cook grabbed the boy and slammed him to the ground.
In the video, the boy got away and ran to his sister, who was still inside Cook’s truck and told her to call their mother. Cook told officers he also instructed the boy to call his mother because his head may be injured from hitting the pavement. When police asked the children’s mother why they were with Cook in his truck, she stated they had just got home from school, and she did not know why they were with him.
Officers went to question Cook, who refused to speak with them, citing his attorney’s advice. Cook was arrested. He chose to tell the officer his version of events on the way to the Gordon County Jail. He told the officers he regularly stayed overnight with the children while their mother worked and also picked them up from school. Cook stated he had permission from their mother to take the children. Cook stated he was trying to calm the boy down and control his “aggressive” behavior.
The following day, the mother called police to report that her daughter told a friend Cook had been touching her inappropriately, including on a recent date when he picked the girl up from a football game. The girl teared up as she told deputies Cook had been touching her for a while and that he recently touched her butt and legs, and that was as far as the touching progressed. Cook was arrested for sexual battery on December 10.
Cook was charged with battery and cruelty to children regarding the initial incident with the young boy. He was charged with one count of sexual battery for fondling the female child. This case is currently pending in court.

[NARRATIVE #1 on December 09, 2022]
On Friday December 9, 2022 at approximately 1853 hours Deputy G.B PHILLIPS with the Gordon County Sheriff’s Office Uniform Patrol Division did a conference via phone call through Gordon County 911 with a nurse from Hamilton Medical Center in reference to an assault to a Juvenile.
The nurse advised Deputy PHILLIPS a 36 year old man, WESLEY COOK assaulted her patient at [500 BLOCK] JOHNSON RD ADAIRSVILLE, GORDON COUNTY, GEORGIA. The nurse asked Deputy PHILLIPS if he would do a report on the incident. Deputy PHILLIPS then spoke to the patients Mother, [WITNESS #1] who said her son; JUVENILE [REDACTED BY AGENCY] was assaulted at their home. Mrs. [WITNESS #1] said they were at the Hamilton Medical Center in Dalton, Ga getting JUVENILE [REDACTED BY AGENCY] checked out for any injuries. Deputy PHILLIPS advised Mrs. [WITNESS #1] he would meet her at her residence when she gets back from Hamilton Medical Center.
Deputy PHILLIPS then met with Mrs. [WITNESS #1] at [500 BLOCK] Johnson Rd. Mrs. [WITNESS #1] said she had a video from the incident. Mrs. [WITNESS #1] said JUVENILE [REDACTED BY AGENCY] was cleared without any injuries. Mrs. [WITNESS #1] said Mr. COOK, who is the one that assaulted JUVENILE [REDACTED BY AGENCY] has been their next door neighbor for years and have never had a problem with him. Mrs. [WITNESS #1] then showed Deputy PHILLIPS the video of the incident. Deputy PHILLIPS observed Mr. COOK shoving JUVENILE [REDACTED BY AGENCY] against a truck while JUVENILE [REDACTED BY AGENCY] screams “let me go”.
The video then shows JUVENILE [REDACTED BY AGENCY] and Mr. COOK wresting, then Mr. COOK grabs JUVENILE [REDACTED BY AGENCY] by the waist and slams him down on a concrete driveway. Mr. COOK then holds JUVENILE [REDACTED BY AGENCY] down while JUVENILE [REDACTED BY AGENCY] is screaming “get off of me”. JUVENILE [REDACTED BY AGENCY] then gets up and runs to his sister, JUVENILE [REDACTED BY AGENCY] who is getting out of the truck. JUVENILE [REDACTED BY AGENCY] tells JUVENILE [REDACTED BY AGENCY] to call their mother. JUVENILE [REDACTED BY AGENCY] and JUVENILE [REDACTED BY AGENCY] then go inside their home.
Deputy PHILLIPS asked Mrs. [WITNESS #1] why her children were with Mr. COOK in his truck. Mrs. [WITNESS #1] said they just got home from school, so she didn’t know why they were with Mr. COOK. Deputy PHILLIPS asked Mrs. [WITNESS #1] to speak with her children. JUVENILE [REDACTED BY AGENCY] said after school, Mr. COOK said that both JUVENILES could go with him to tractor supply. Both JUVENILES went with Mr. COOK to tractor supply to pick something up for Mr. COOK. JUVENILE [REDACTED BY AGENCY] said while they were at tractor supply, JUVENILE [REDACTED BY AGENCY] accidently knocked something down in the store.
JUVENILE [REDACTED BY AGENCY] said Mr. COOK got mad at both JUVENILES and started to cuss at them. JUVENILE [REDACTED BY AGENCY] said they then got back into the truck and drove back home. JUVENILE [REDACTED BY AGENCY] said when they arrived home; Mr. COOK told them to stay in the truck to talk to them. JUVENILE [REDACTED BY AGENCY] said he was too mad so he got out of the truck and started to walk inside the house. JUVENILE [REDACTED BY AGENCY] said Mr. COOK then walked in front of him while grabbing his shoulder to get back in the truck.
JUVENILE [REDACTED BY AGENCY] said he told Mr. COOK to stop touching him, Mr. COOK said he can touch him if he wants. JUVENILE [REDACTED BY AGENCY] said that Mr. COOK then pushed him against his truck while JUVENILE [REDACTED BY AGENCY] was trying to get away. JUVENILE [REDACTED BY AGENCY] said he just kept squeezing him and not letting him go. JUVENILE [REDACTED BY AGENCY] said he then elbowed Mr. COOK in the face. JUVENILE [REDACTED BY AGENCY] said Mr. COOK then grabbed him and threw him on to the ground. Mrs. [WITNESS #1] advised Deputy PHILLIPS Mr. COOK should still be home next door.
Deputy PHILLIPS then moved to Mr. COOKS address at [500 BLOCK] Johnson Rd Adairsville, Gordon County, Georgia. Deputy PHILLIPS then makes contact with Mr. COOK. Mr. COOK said his lawyer told him not to talk. Deputy PHILLIPS then reads the Miranda Warning and places Mr. COOK under arrest. Deputy PHILLIPS then places Mr. COOK in his patrol car and start to transfer him to the Gordon County Jail. Mr. COOK then said he wanted to talk about the incident on the way to the jail. Mr. COOK said he just wanted to confront JUVENILE [REDACTED BY AGENCY] for his “aggressive behavior” against his sister JUVENILE [REDACTED BY AGENCY] for pushing and hurting her which caused things to fall in tractor supply.
Mr. COOK said he told the JUVENILES to quit their sh*t and to pick up their mess. Mr. COOK said JUVENILE [REDACTED BY AGENCY] then balled his fist up and acted like he was going to punch him. Mr. COOK said they drove back to the JUVENILES home. Mr. COOK said he told the JUVENILES he needed to talk to them before they went inside. Mr. COOK said JUVENILE [REDACTED BY AGENCY] got out and started walking to the front door, so Mr. COOK got in front of him and the door. Mr. COOK told JUVENILE [REDACTED BY AGENCY] he wanted to talk to him. Mr. COOK said JUVENILE [REDACTED BY AGENCY] tried walking through him, so Mr. COOK grabbed him by the arm and told him to calm down.
Mr. COOK said he then pinned JUVENILE [REDACTED BY AGENCY] against the truck to get him to calm down. Mr. COOK then said JUVENILE [REDACTED BY AGENCY] started to elbow and kick him. Mr. COOK said he then bear hugged JUVENILE [REDACTED BY AGENCY] and told him that he wasn’t going to let go until JUVENILE [REDACTED BY AGENCY] calmed down from being so angry. Mr. COOK said he then moved JUVENILE [REDACTED BY AGENCY] away from the truck. Mr. COOK said JUVENILE [REDACTED BY AGENCY] then elbowed him in the head, so Mr. COOK pushed JUVENILE [REDACTED BY AGENCY] to the ground and he hit his head.
Mr. COOK said he told JUVENILE [REDACTED BY AGENCY] to call their mother. Mr. COOK told JUVENILE [REDACTED BY AGENCY] that Mrs. [WITNESS #1] may need to take JUVENILE [REDACTED BY AGENCY] to the emergency room in case he hurt his head. Deputy PHILLIPS asked Mr. COOK why the JUVENILES were in his truck. Mr. COOK said Mrs. [WITNESS #1] told him they could ride with him. Mr. COOK said he sometimes picks the JUVENILES up from school. Mr. COOK said he picked the JUVENILES up from their school game Thursday and brought them home. Mr. COOK said he sometimes stays the night at the JUVENILES home when Mrs. [WITNESS #1] is at work.
Mr. COOK was then transported and turned over to the Gordon County Sheriff’s Office Jail Staff. Deputy PHILLIPS charged and took warrants out for Mr. COOK with Cruelty to Children 1st degree, Cruelty to Children 3rd degree, False Imprisonment and Simple Battery. Deputy PHILLIPS recorded the incident off of Mrs. [WITNESS #1] ‘s camera and was placed in the Gordon County Sheriff’s Office data base.

On Friday December 9, 2022 at approximately 1853 hours Deputy G.B PHILLIPS with the Gordon County Sheriff’s Office Uniform Patrol Division responded to [500 BLOCK] Johnson Rd Adairsville, Gordon County, Georgia in reference to an assault report. (Case #22-12-0345)
Deputy PHILLIPS spoke with [WITNESS #1] during the assault incident who said WESLEY COOK had also been touching her daughter, JUVENILE [REDACTED BY AGENCY] in inappropriate places. Mrs. [WITNESS #1] said JUVENILE [REDACTED BY AGENCY] told Mrs. [WITNESS #1] ‘s friend that Mr. COOK had been touching her. Mrs. [WITNESS #1] said JUVENILE [REDACTED BY AGENCY] wouldn’t talk to her about it. Mrs. [WITNESS #1] asked Deputy PHILLIPS if he would talk to JUVENILE [REDACTED BY AGENCY] about it.
Deputy PHILLIPS asked JUVENILE [REDACTED BY AGENCY] if anything had happened between her and Mr. COOK. JUVENILE [REDACTED BY AGENCY] then began to tear up in the eyes and said this had been going on for a while lately with Mr. COOK. JUVENILE [REDACTED BY AGENCY] said he would get into the truck with Mr. COOK and a few minutes later Mr. COOK would start to touch JUVENILE [REDACTED BY AGENCY] legs. JUVENILE [REDACTED BY AGENCY] said Mr. COOK took her home from a football game Thursday night when Mr. COOK touched her butt area and legs. JUVENILE [REDACTED BY AGENCY] said that was about all Mr. COOK has done.
This incident will be turned over to the Gordon County Sheriff’s Office Detective Division.
