DEKALB COUNTY, Ga. — Police have arrested a suspect in connection with a deadly hit-and-run crash that killed a bicyclist in northeast Atlanta last month.
The Atlanta Police Department said Joshua Acoff is accused of hitting Kassanna Lewis while she was riding her bicycle near the Buford Highway Connector and Sidney Marcus Boulevard NE.
Officers responded to the area around 9:15 p.m. on April 24 after receiving reports of a pedestrian struck. Investigators said Lewis died at the scene.
Authorities initially searched for a silver or gray vehicle, possibly a Toyota Prius, based on witness descriptions. During the investigation, police later identified a white Honda Civic with significant front-end damage.
According to the warrant affidavit, investigators found blood, hair and clothing fibers on the vehicle that matched Lewis’s clothing. Detectives also reviewed surveillance video that showed the car in the area around the time of the crash.
Police said the damage to both the Honda Civic and the bicycle was consistent with Lewis being struck from behind.
Acoff was arrested Monday and charged with homicide by vehicle and hit and run resulting in serious injury or death.
