FULTON COUNTY, Ga. – Police have identified the man and woman found dead inside a Virginia-Highland home over the weekend as a longtime Atlanta police investigator and a woman whose death was ruled a homicide.
Atlanta police said Kevin Stroner, 56, and Moriah Cardona, 44, were found dead Saturday at a residence on Cooledge Avenue. According to the Fulton County Medical Examiner’s Office, both died from gunshot wounds. Cardona’s manner of death was listed as homicide, while Stroner’s was ruled a suicide.
Investigators said the shooting was an isolated incident and that there is no ongoing threat to the public. Police said there are no outstanding suspects and have not released details about what led up to the deaths.
Property records show Stroner owned the home where the bodies were found.
Public records indicate Stroner was a 13-year veteran of the Atlanta Police Department who joined the force as a second career and served as an investigator. Department records show he received multiple commendations during his career, including recognition in December 2020 for helping arrest an accused robber and an earlier commendation for stopping an armed robbery in progress at a Family Dollar store in 2012.
The Fulton County Medical Examiner’s Office will complete final determinations on the cause of death for both individuals.
Atlanta police said counseling services are being offered to officers affected by Stroner’s death.
