The following was taken from a press release distributed by the Atlanta Police Department:

Fulton County (February 16, 2023) – Preliminary Information: On 2/15/23 around 11:30 pm, officers were patrolling the 900 block of Donald Lee Hollowell Parkway NW when they observed a driver of a 2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee discharge a firearm.

The shots were fired in the presence of a unit who responded quickly by requesting the APD Air Unit to maintain a visual of the jeep from the air. Ground mobile units monitored radio traffic as the air unit surveilled the vehicle as it began to drive recklessly at high speeds.

As ground units coordinated to get into a position to apprehend the driver, a collision occurred between a patrol vehicle and civilian vehicle. GSP responded to the accident scene and will lead the investigation.

At some point, the suspect driver fled from the vehicle near the 3900 block of Campbellton Rd SW. Officers and K-9 units began canvassing the area. The suspect driver’s jeep as well as the firearm believed to be used during the incident was recovered.

The suspect remains outstanding at this time as the investigation continues. Please keep in mind the above information is preliminary in nature and can change as the investigation progresses and new information comes to light.
