FULTON COUNTY, Ga. – On Saturday, February 22, 2025, the game at Atlanta’s Mercedes-Benz Stadium, a season opener for both Atlanta United and CF Montréal, resulted in an exciting win for Atlanta. Not only did the team celebrate their first official victory on the pitch, but they also gathered a record number of fans as well.
An impressive 65,520 attendees visited the stadium on Saturday evening, registering as the third-largest soccer match crowd ever across the globe. The team won with a final score of 3-2, with forward Emmanuel Latte Lath scoring two of the points on his debut night.
After replacing midfielder Saba Lobjanidze late in the game, Edwin Mosquera scored the winning goal in minute 85, with an assist from a new midfielder to the team, Miquel Almirón, cementing their lead. Goalkeeper Brad Guzan also had a great game, preventing four goals.
Another noteworthy moment of the match was veteran captain Brad Guzan’s 200th appearance, which was met with loud admiration from the massive crowd. Atlanta totaled 14 shots, and Montréal totaled 12 shots.
Atlanta United’s next game will take place at Bank of America Stadium on Saturday, March 1, 2025, at 2:15 PM ET against Charlotte FC.
