BRYAN COUNTY, Ga. – What began as an attempt to bail out a friend ended with a man in handcuffs after deputies say he brought marijuana and a firearm into the Bryan County Jail.
According to the Sheriff’s Office, the incident happened last week when the man arrived at the jail in an Uber carrying two suitcases and a duffel bag. Deputies said the luggage gave off such a strong odor of marijuana that it was noticeable to others waiting in the lobby.
The man then moved the bags outside, where deputies deployed K9 Vasko for a search. The dog quickly alerted on the duffel bag. Inside, deputies found a felony amount of marijuana, more than an ounce, along with a firearm.
Instead of posting bond for his friend, the man was arrested and booked into the same jail. He now faces multiple felony charges, including possession of marijuana over an ounce, possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony, and two counts of crossing guard lines with narcotics and a firearm.
Sheriff’s officials did not release the man’s name but issued a reminder that bringing contraband into a correctional facility is a serious crime that will likely result in immediate arrest.
