AUGUSTA, Ga. – Officers responded to a Concord Drive residence for the seventh time in two weeks regarding a woman locking her 15-year-old boys out of the house. The two juveniles told the Richmond County Sheriff’s officers that they had slept in the yard under the trampoline in the rain for the past two days.

Georgia Crisis workers arrived and explained that the suspect, Yolanda Renita Brooks, had called them to request they evaluate the children for mental illness. After Brooks answered her door, stating she “didn’t want police at her residence and that she never called 911,” she said since the RCSO failed to help her remove the children, she would need to do it “her way.”

When the officers placed one of her hands into cuffs, she tried escaping into the home, but they quickly secured her other hand. Then she attempted to drop to the floor and not budge, but they held her up and walked her to the patrol vehicle.

Next, she complained about back and spine issues, so they contacted EMS. However, when Augusta Fire Department Engine 16 evaluated her, she would not stop moving, and they could not obtain proper readings on the equipment.

Officers had warned her of possible arrest, completed case reports, and notified DFCS on all six previous visits. They transported her to the Richmond County Jail and informed the staff of her back problems.

On March 24, 2023, Brooks was charged with two counts of contributing to the delinquency or dependency of a minor. This case is currently pending in court. DFCS advised that they would send out a caseworker at a later time.

On March 23, 2023, I, Deputy Timothy Mashburn (6312) was dispatched to [REDACTED BY AGENCY] Concord Dr in reference to depravation of minors. Upon my arrival, I found [REDACTED BY AGENCY] and [REDACTED BY AGENCY] sitting on the front porch locked out of the residence while the mother Yolanda Brooks was inside the residence.

As I started to approach the residence, Georgia Crisis workers arrived on the scene to talk to the kids. They stated that they were called by Yolanda Brooks to evaluate the children for mental illness. Cpl Gunn (C62) and I knocked on the door and Yolanda Brooks answered the door stating that she didn’t want police at her residence and that she never called 911.

She stated that the RCSO would not help her to remove the children so she was going to do this “her way”. At that time, we moved to arrest her. After placing her one hand in a handcuff she attempted to move into the residence to avoid arrest. We grabbed her other hand and placed it in the other cuff. She then attempted to drop her body weight to fall to the floor but we held her up to avoid her falling.

We then moved her to my patrol vehicle. We arrested her for locking the two juvenile victims that she is responsible for out of the residence for the seventh time in the last two weeks. We warned her on all six other occasions, did case reports, and contacted DFCS on those occasions. Below is the list of the six other cases during which she locked them out of the residence.

As we were on scene, the two juveniles informed GA Crisis that they have been sleeping outside of the residence under the trampoline for the last two days in the rain. We observed no signs of illness at this time for either juvenile. While we were on scene, Yolanda Brooks stated she had back and spine problems and we contacted First Responders to check her out prior to transporting her to the jail.

Augusta Fire Dept Engine 16 arrived and attempted to evaluate Yolanda Brooks but she refused to stop moving which inteferred with the readings of the equipment. I then transported Yoland Brooks to RCJ. I contacted RCJ to inform them of the back problems so they could meet me at the door to help her get into the jail.

I informed DFCS about the situation and they stated they will send a case worker out at a later time. I applied for and was approved for the warrant. Records clerk [REDACTED] received the warrant in records. Prior cases during which she was warned about locking the juveniles of the residence:
