Camden County – Dashcam video from January 16 shows a Camden County Sheriff’s deputy assaulting a driver, during a traffic stop, and another deputy crashing into the driver’s vehicle.

Deputy Christi Newman is seen in the dashcam footage asking the driver, Charis Faria, to step out of the vehicle after failing to obey a stop sign. Faria refused.

Deputy Newman threatened to break the driver’s side window, attempted to open the driver’s door several times, then called for backup.

A second Camden County Sheriff’s cruiser arrived and crashed into the front of Faria’s vehicle. Deputy Newman hit Faria, pulled her from the vehicle, and threw her to the ground. Deputy Newman screamed profanities throughout the incident.

Faria was tased and placed in handcuffs. While in handcuffs, she was again assaulted by Deputy Newman, who punched Faria twice as deputies escorted Faria to a cruiser.

Deputy Newman was suspended by the sheriff’s department and placed on probation following the incident.

The driver, Charis Faria, was arrested and charged with ‘Obstructing a Law Enforcement Officer,’ ‘Window tint violation,’ ‘Driving with a suspended license,’ and ‘Failure to obey a Stop sign.’
