Warning: The following report describes alleged sexual violence.
CARROLL COUNTY, Ga. – Authorities arrested a man, William Austin Robertson, for allegedly raping his 81-year-old relative at her Carrollton home in the early morning of August 5.
According to reports, deputies from the Carroll County Sheriff’s Office were called to Tanner Carrollton Emergency Department after the victim was brought in by a family member. The relative had been awakened during the night by what she initially thought to be a fall.
Upon investigating, she found the elderly woman’s bedroom door locked and heard noises from inside the room. After several minutes of trying to open the door, Robertson, sweating and visibly distressed, eventually emerged. He claimed he was searching for a television remote before leaving the room and heading downstairs to drink alcohol.
The victim, discovered partially clothed and bleeding, said that Robertson had raped her. Medical examinations at Tanner Carrollton Emergency Department confirmed that the injuries were consistent with sexual assault.
When deputies arrived at the residence, Robertson was not found at the scene. A coordinated search involving the Georgia State Patrol led to his discovery beneath the back porch of a nearby vacant house, where he was taken into custody.
Robertson faces charges of rape, incest, and exploitation and intimidation of an elderly person/disabled adult.
