The following was taken from a press release distributed by the Chatham County Police Department on June 14, 2024:

CHATHAM COUNTY, Ga. – The Chatham County Police Department is searching for two people suspected of scamming a store clerk Wednesday evening, and the department is urging other business owners and employees to be extra vigilant.

Surveillance cameras caught the suspects as the incident was taking place around 7:30 p.m. on June 12, 2024, at the Family Dollar Store located at 7360 Skidaway. The men distracted the store clerk, and then quickly manipulated the cash register – causing it to authorize a fraudulent transaction.

At this time, it appears that Family Dollar stores are a specific target of these scammers. But, Chatham County Police Detectives say all business owners and cash register operators need to be aware.

Detectives are now working to identify the two individuals in the surveillance photos.

Anyone with information about these individuals is asked to contact police. Anonymous tips can be sent through the Chatham County Police Department app, or the Department’s online tip form found here: https://police.chathamcountyga.gov/Tips.

You can also call Crime Stoppers at 912-234-2020, where tipsters are anonymous and may qualify for a cash reward.
