Warning: The following story contains information regarding alleged domestic violence and alleged physical violence against children.
MUSCOGEE COUNTY, Ga. – Authorities arrested a 20-year-old Columbus man in connection with the deaths of his pregnant wife and her unborn child. The stabbing reportedly occurred on Friday, July 5, 2024, at the Elizabeth Canty Homes apartments near Cusseta Road’s 2000 block.
Muscogee County Coroner Buddy Bryan revealed that Chasity Dean was stabbed in the chest.
Columbus Police officers responded to the location just before 2:00 PM and found the 20-year-old victim with a stab wound. She was transported to Piedmont Columbus Regional Hospital, where doctors quickly realized she was pregnant.
The physicians pronounced the 20-week pregnant mother and her fetus deceased at approximately 2:30 PM. Their bodies will be scheduled for autopsies.
A multi-agency investigation uncovered Kyle Dean as a primary suspect. East Alabama law enforcement apprehended Dean and transported him to the Lee County Jail in Alabama, where he awaits extradition to Columbus, Georgia. He will be booked into the Muscogee County Jail sometime this week.
A Columbus Police Department spokesperson said that Chasity had secured a TPO (Temporary Protective Order) against her husband, who had been discharged from the Army earlier this year. He was ordered to vacate Fort Moore because of domestic violence.
Officials have not yet released a motive.
The Columbus Police Department, the Russell County Sheriff’s Office, the Phenix City Police Department, the Lee County Sheriff’s Office, and the Fort Moore Criminal Investigative Division collaborated to secure Dean’s arrest.
This case is pending.
