CHEROKEE COUNTY, Ga. – A woman is facing an array of charges after security cameras captured her stealing items from a patient’s Canton home on April 13 and 14, 2023. Sharon Young worked for Comfort Keepers, a company that provides in-home care, and according to the victim’s son, she is the second employee accused of a crime at the residence.

The victim’s son spoke with a Cherokee County Sheriff’s deputy on April 15, 2023, and reported witnessing Young stealing his mother’s jewelry, prescription pills, and pants on their Ring camera footage. He explained that they installed cameras in the kitchen and bedroom due to an incident in December regarding another Comfort Keepers employee – an incident that is still under investigation.

He said he observed Young rifling through a jewelry box in his mother’s bedroom and trying on jewelry. She placed multiple items into a purple bag featuring a sunflower.

In the kitchen, Young read the label on a prescription pill bottle and took two pills. After comparing the remainder to a secure count completed on April 11, he learned that 30 Oxycodone and seven Xanax pills were missing.

He submitted the security footage as evidence.

The deputy spoke with the victim and asked if she wished to press charges, and she said she did.

Young faces charges of exploiting and intimidating an elderly person, neglecting a disabled/elderly adult in long-term care, misdemeanor theft by taking, and two counts of acquiring/obtaining/possessing controlled substances. This case is pending in court.

On 04/15/2023, I called [WITNESS #1] in reference to a theft.

I spoke to the complainant, [WITNESS #1], by cellphone. [WITNESS #1]’s mother, [VICTIM #1], hired a stay-at-home nursing company, Comfort Keepers, to take care of her. [WITNESS #1] informed me he had caught Sharon Young, an employee who works for Comfort Keepers and works for [VICTIM #1] as her nurse taking pills, pants, and jewelry on Ring camera. The Ring cameras have been set up in the kitchen and bedroom since the last incident in December. The original case number is SO22-018093. The Cherokee County Sheriff’s Office is still investigating this case. The original case has the same company Comfort Keepers but different suspects.

[WITNESS #1] said the incident occurred on April 13th and 14th of 2023 at approximately 4:00 PM. When [WITNESS #1] reviewed the Ring camera footage, he observed Sharon looking through [VICTIM #1]’s jewelry box in her bedroom and trying on the jewelry. While Sharon was in the bedroom, she put items in a purple bag with a sunflower. In the kitchen, [WITNESS #1] watches Sharon read a label on a pill bottle. After reading the label on the pill bottle, Sharon took two white-circle pills. [WITNESS #1] informed me that [VICTIM #1] is missing 30 Oxycodone and 7 Xanax. He told me a trusted person [REDACTED] counted the pills on April 11th, 2023, and all the medications were accounted for.

I requested [WITNESS #1] send the Ring camera footage of Sharon committing the crime.

I spoke with [VICTIM #1] via cell phone. I asked [VICTIM #1] if she wanted to pursue charges for the stolen medication and jewelry, and she said yes. I provided a case number and explained how he could obtain a copy of this report. I returned to service.

[WITNESS #1] sent me the Ring Camera footage. I uploaded the video to a DVD and completed an Evidence and Property Chain of Custody Sheet ECR-23-00673. I place the DVD and chain of custody sheet in the evidence locker number 1 at the Free Home precinct.
