COBB COUNTY, Ga. — Two people are facing felony charges after police said they broke into a closed Caribou Coffee, bathed inside the restroom and were later found with suspected methamphetamine and drug paraphernalia.
The Kennesaw Police Department said officers responded to the coffee shop on Cobb Parkway just after 1 a.m. on May 11 after an anonymous 911 caller reported seeing two people enter the business while it was closed.
When officers arrived, they could not initially see anyone inside the building but heard music coming from the restroom area while checking the doors.
After officers entered and announced themselves, Alyssa Clingan came out of the restroom before locking the door again, according to the incident report. Austin Gravett later exited the restroom and was also detained, police said.
Investigators said the pair appeared to have been bathing inside the restroom.
While searching the area, officers noticed a garbage can lid partially removed and began looking for possible evidence. Inside the trash can, officers found shattered pipes believed to be used for smoking narcotics along with a bag containing suspected methamphetamine.
When an officer referred to the items as “crack pipes,” Clingan corrected the officer and said they were “meth pipes,” which investigators took as an indication she was familiar with the items, according to the report. She stopped speaking with officers afterward.
A field test confirmed the substance was methamphetamine. Both suspects were taken to the Cobb County Adult Detention Center.
Clingan and Gravett each face multiple felony charges, including second-degree burglary, possession of methamphetamine, possession of drug-related objects and tampering with evidence.
