FULTON COUNTY, Ga. – A decomposing body was found Wednesday inside a storage unit in southwest Atlanta, according to police.
Atlanta police said officers responded around 11 a.m. to 2084 Campbellton Road, behind a shopping center, where a woman was discovered dead inside a storage unit. “She appears to have been shot. She was found in a state of composition, and her identity is unknown,” police said in a statement.
Investigators said the woman had been shot and her body placed in the unit in an apparent attempt to conceal it. She is believed to have been dead for at least 24 hours.
Officers found one shell casing in the parking lot of the shopping center and another inside the unit. The storage facility sits in a strip mall, and detectives have been speaking with nearby business owners and reviewing surveillance video for potential leads.
According to reports, the woman had been seen in the area and had moved to Atlanta only a few months ago.
The investigation remains active.
