STEPHENS COUNTY, Ga. — A 58-year-old man has been arrested in connection with a sexual assault investigation in Toccoa following a months-long investigation by local police.

Stephen Pittman faces charges of rape, two counts of sexual battery, and two counts of exploitation of a disabled person, according to authorities.

Police said investigators spent several months gathering evidence, interviewing witnesses, and conducting forensic testing before identifying Pittman as the suspect. Officials reported that DNA evidence played a significant role in linking him to the case.

Because the investigation involves sensitive circumstances, the Toccoa Police Department said additional details about the alleged assault will not be released in order to protect the victim’s privacy.

Authorities indicated that investigators remain committed to pursuing sexual assault cases and using forensic technology to assist in identifying suspects.

No further information about the case has been made public.
