DOUGLAS COUNTY, Ga. – A Douglas County man has been arrested and charged in the death of his 3-month-old daughter after investigators say he violently shook the infant, causing catastrophic injuries.

Douglasville police said officers were called to an apartment on West Stewart Mill Road on Dec. 22 after receiving a report of a baby having difficulty breathing. Officers arrived and attempted life-saving measures.

“Our officers performed CPR, but the child later died at the hospital,” police said in a social media statement.

Following the infant’s death, investigators launched a deeper medical and criminal investigation. Police said evidence later showed the baby had suffered severe trauma consistent with being violently shaken.

Geordy Josue Hernandez Ventura, 23, was arrested Tuesday and charged with murder, aggravated assault and first-degree cruelty to children, according to police and jail records.

Arrest warrants allege Ventura caused the death of his daughter, Isela Hernandez, “by violently shaking [her] while she was crying,” resulting in vomiting and bleeding on the brain. Investigators said the injuries were fatal.

Ventura was booked into the Douglas County Jail, where he is being held without bond.

In the days following Isela’s death — but before Ventura’s arrest — a family member created a fundraising page to help cover funeral expenses. The page describes the infant as deeply loved by her family.

“Isela was a gift from God, our miracle and our greatest love,” the post reads. “In just three months, she taught us what it means to love without measure. Every look, every movement and every breath she took is etched in our souls.”

Douglasville police said the investigation remains ongoing. No additional details were released.

Anyone with information related to the case is urged to contact the Douglasville Police Department.
