GILMER COUNTY, Ga. – Gilmer County Sheriff’s deputies arrested a 31-year-old Douglasville man on January 7, 2024, and charged him with child molestation for sexually assaulting a juvenile female. The day prior, the victim told her father that Johnathan Ray Iler, their live-in caretaker, had been fondling her for at least five months.
The child said Iler had “been coming into her room at night and rubbing her back and her buttocks.” She stated that he also “had a vibrating massager that he used on her vagina.”
In addition to the sexual contact, the victim said the “mental grooming [had] been going on for about a year.” Iler was arrested following an investigation.
This case is pending in court.

On January 6th 2024, I, Deputy Rebecca Scott #555 working for Gilmer County was dispatched to place a phone call to a father who had information about child molestation involving his daughter. When I arrived back to the Sheriff’s Office I placed Mr. [WITNESS #1] a phone call to get more information about his daughter. Mr. [WITNESS #1] stated that his daughter, Juv1, told them today about being molested by the live in care taker, Mr. Johnathan Iler.
Earlier in the day Juv1 took a ride with Mrs. [REDACTED], who also lives in the home, and divulged that she has been being molested by Mr. Iler. Mrs. [REDACTED] then texted her father and told him she needed to talk to him about Juv1. He met Mrs. [REDACTED] and Juv1 outside at their residence to discuss the incident. Juv1 stated to her father that Mr. Iler has been coming into her room at night and rubbing her back and her buttocks. She also stated that he had a vibrating massager that he used on her vag*na. The physical altercations have been going on for at least five months but the mental grooming has been going on for about a year Juv1 believes.
After I got the statement from the father over the phone, I had dispatch have on call CID place me a phone call, which was Detective Farnham #594. Detective Farnham advised me to have the father and the daughter meet us at the Sheriff’s Office; once they arrived I had them follow me over to CID for an interview with Detective Farnham. At this time I turned the case over to Detective Farnham for further investigation.
No audio or video was conducted and no victim’s pamphlet was given due to the statement being over the phone, and then turned over to CID.
