FLOYD COUNTY, Ga. – An 18-year-old Cedartown man has been arrested in connection with the death of a 4-month-old baby after a violent assault earlier this year, authorities said.

Trenton Daniel Rittenhouse was taken into custody in Rome following an investigation that determined he violently shook the infant, resulting in fatal injuries, according to the Rome Police Department. The incident occurred on March 13 at a home on Leafmore Road.

Investigators said the assault caused the baby to suffer internal hemorrhaging and rib injuries. Rittenhouse allegedly left the child unattended while the infant was dying.

Rittenhouse has been charged with malice murder, murder, and aggravated battery. Officials said additional charges could be filed as the investigation continues.

The case remains under active investigation by the Rome Police Department and the Georgia Bureau of Investigation. Authorities said no further details will be released at this time to protect the integrity of the ongoing investigation.

Anyone with information about the case is urged to contact the Rome Police Department Criminal Investigations Division at (706) 238-5111.
