HARRIS COUNTY, Ga. – The Georgia Bureau of Investigation is investigating an officer-involved shooting in Midland that left a 50-year-old man dead, and two minors dead inside the home, authorities said.
Preliminary information released by the GBI indicates Harris County Sheriff’s Office deputies were sent about 7 p.m. Monday to a domestic disturbance at a residence in the 100 block of Christopher’s Way. When deputies arrived, Eric Grigsby exited the home holding two firearms and pointed them at the officers. Deputies ordered him to drop the weapons; he declined, and deputies fired, striking Grigsby. He was pronounced dead at the scene. No deputies were injured.
After securing the property, deputies searched the home and discovered the bodies of two minors, later identified by investigators as Grigsby’s stepsons. Authorities have not released the minors’ names or ages. The GBI said the bodies of Grigsby and the two children will be transported to the GBI Medical Examiner’s Office for autopsies.
Investigators have not explained how the minors died or what led to the domestic dispute. The GBI said its agents are conducting an independent investigation and, once complete, will provide the case file to the Chattahoochee Judicial Circuit district attorney’s office for review.
The Muscogee County School District confirmed that Grigsby previously worked in the district, serving as assistant principal at Blackmon Road Middle School from 2012 to 2016 and at Waddell Elementary School from 2016 to 2018.
The GBI asked anyone with information to contact its Regional Investigative Office in Columbus at (706) 565-7888. Anonymous tips also can be submitted by calling 1-800-597-TIPS (8477), online at gbi.georgia.gov/submit-tips-online, or via the See Something, Send Something mobile app.
The investigation remains active and ongoing.
