JOHNSON COUNTY, Ga. – A former Johnson County teacher and coach has been sentenced to 50 years after pleading guilty to having an inappropriate sexual relationship with a student, authorities said.
Charles Beale of Dublin pleaded guilty Tuesday to eight counts of improper sexual contact by an employee, which applies when a teacher has sexually explicit contact with a student enrolled at their school, according to the Johnson County Sheriff’s Office.
Beale was sentenced to serve the first 20 years in prison followed by 30 years of probation. He will be required to register as a sex offender after completing his sentence.
The investigation began after the sheriff’s office received a tip that Beale was having an inappropriate relationship with a student. Investigators determined the relationship was ongoing from August 2024 through November 2024, when Beale was arrested.
Beale was a coach and teacher at Johnson County Middle and High Schools, according to since-deleted pages on the school’s website.
Sheriff Greg Rowland highlighted the work of the Dublin Circuit District Attorney’s Office and the Johnson County Sheriff’s Office criminal investigation division in bringing the case to court.
“Uncovering and building this case was critical in achieving justice for the victim,” a press release said. “Meticulous evidence gathering, ensuring every detail was documented and a relentless pursuit of justice, leaving no stone unturned to hold the offender accountable.”
