LEE COUNTY, Ga. – A former Lee County teacher turned herself in to authorities Wednesday on charges of child molestation and sexual assault by a teacher, according to the Lee County Sheriff’s Office.
Danielle Weaver, 29, was arrested Wednesday morning and released on bond later that day, officials confirmed.
The case began when the Leesburg Police Department was made aware of allegations of inappropriate contact between a teacher and a student. Police called the Georgia Bureau of Investigation to assist with the investigation.
The GBI obtained warrants for Weaver’s arrest. She turned herself in Wednesday morning, officials said.
Weaver is charged with child molestation and sexual assault by a teacher, principal, assistant principal, or other administrator engaged in sexual contact. Her bond was set at $50,000, with each charge carrying a $25,000 fine, according to the sheriff’s office.
On Feb. 5, the Lee County School System sent a statement to parents confirming an ongoing legal investigation involving a former staff member who is no longer working for the district.
