MUSCOGEE COUNTY, Ga. – On February 23, 2024, Columbus Police officers arrested a former Muscogee County Sheriff’s Office investigator as the primary suspect in a sexual assault investigation involving a juvenile. Corey Joseph Brand faces charges of rape, child molestation, aggravated sexual battery, computer/electronic pornography, and violation of oath of office.
Muscogee County Sheriff Greg Countryman posted on Facebook, “This type of criminal behavior is absolutely unacceptable. We will continue to work in collaboration with our federal and local partners on this case.”
Police said they learned about the sexual assault in August 2020 but just recently obtained new evidence identifying Brand as the suspected attacker. In December 2023, Brand was arrested in Phenix City, Russell County, Alabama, for possession with the intent to disseminate child pornography.
Brand previously worked for the Columbus Police Department as a police officer.
This case is pending in court.
