HABERSHAM COUNTY, Ga. – Authorities arrested a 47-year-old former county school resource officer on Wednesday, October 9, 2024, following an investigation into his interaction with multiple students. Further details have yet to be released as the Georgia Bureau of Investigation examines this active case.
The GBI apprehended Cornelia man David Matthew Jackels and transported him to the Habersham County Detention Center, where he was charged with making false statements and violation of oath by a public officer. The investigation began after Sheriff Joey Terrell requested the GBI’s assistance regarding unnamed accusations on February 29, 2024.
