FULTON COUNTY, Ga. – First released in September 2024 on FX and Hulu, the comedy hit “English Teacher” has been renewed for a second season. The announcement comes as the creator and star Brian Jordan Alvarez faces accusations of sexual assault; Alvarez said the actions were consensual.

The allegations were made by Alvarez’s former friend and co-star Jon Ebeling in a public Instagram post in August and a New York Magazine article in December. Ebeling starred with him in the 2016 web series “The Gay and Wondrous Life of Caleb Gallo,” which was produced by Alvarez as well.

“English Teacher” also stars Carmen Christopher, Enrico Colantoni, Stephanie Koenig, and Sean Patton. In the magazine article, Ebeling accused actor Koenig, who also writes for the show, of involvement in the perpetuation of the alleged abuse, which he said occurred during the web series filming.

After the accusations became public, an FX spokesperson stated, “We reviewed the allegations presented to us by another media outlet prior to the show’s launch. Mr. Ebeling never reached out to us with any concerns. We will have no further comment at this time.”

Regarding the show’s renewal, FX Entertainment President Nick Grad said it “was one of the most critically acclaimed new shows of 2024, and we are grateful to the producers, writers, cast, directors, and crew for the show’s creative excellence. We look forward to the new season.”

“English Teacher” follows Evan Marquez, a high school teacher in Austin, Texas, but the show was filmed in Atlanta. Other producers include Jake Bender, Kathryn Dean, Zach Dunn, Dave King, Jonathan Krisel, and Paul Simms.

The series focuses on personal, political, and professional issues the character encounters as a high school teacher, including typical setbacks, different types of relationships with staff and students, and other facets of a career in education.

Season one was filmed in early 2024 in Atlanta, but officials have not announced if season two, scheduled to release later in 2025, will also be filmed in Fulton County.
