Georgia – Florida Highway Patrol troopers arrested a 22-year-old Georgia woman for shooting at vehicles on a highway in Florida’s panhandle during Monday’s solar eclipse. The FHP reported that Taylon Nichelle Celestine told Holmes County hotel employees that “God” had instructed her to conduct a shooting spree.
Celestine claimed “God’s” directions related to the eclipse. She shot into two cars traveling west on Interstate 10 and grazed one driver in the arm and the other in the neck.
Officials revealed she drove away from the hotel in a purple Dodge Challenger, and after the shootings, a trooper observed the vehicle exit the interstate in Ponce De Leon. The Holmes County Sheriff’s Office said she attempted to make a U-turn and re-enter the highway, but the trooper pulled her over.
Troopers searched Celestine’s vehicle and discovered a 9mm handgun and an AR-15 rifle. She was transported to the Holmes County Jail and faces charges of attempted murder, improper discharge of a firearm, and aggravated battery with a deadly weapon.
This case is pending.
