WASHINGTON COUNTY, Ga. – A Georgia prison officer was arrested on drug trafficking charges after state agents searched a home in Washington County and found multiple illegal drugs and firearms, authorities said.
The Georgia Bureau of Investigation announced the arrest of Adriana Carnelio, 27, a correctional officer at Washington State Prison, following a search of a residence in Tennille on Jan. 14. Agents said the search uncovered marijuana, crack cocaine, powder cocaine and methamphetamine, along with two firearms.
Carnelio was charged with possession of powder cocaine with intent to distribute, possession of crack cocaine with intent to distribute, possession of marijuana with intent to distribute, and possession of methamphetamine with intent to distribute. She also faces two counts of possession of a firearm during the commission of a crime and one count of theft of lost or mislaid property, according to the GBI.
A second person, Quentavious Daveon Peacock, 34, was also arrested during the investigation. Peacock was charged with the same drug and firearm offenses as Carnelio, as well as two counts of possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, authorities said.
Both Carnelio and Peacock were booked into the Washington County Jail, the GBI said.
Carnelio is employed as a correctional officer at Washington State Prison. As of Friday evening, the Georgia Department of Corrections had not responded to a request for comment regarding her employment status.
The investigation was conducted by the Ocmulgee Drug Task Force with assistance from local and state agencies. Authorities said the case remains active.
