Follow GBI Investigates after Chatham County inmate found dead

CHATHAM COUNTY – The death of a Chatham County inmate is being investigated by the Georgia Bureau of Investigation (GBI).
An officer discovered inmate Charles Nelson unresponsive in his cell during a routine check at the Chatham County Detention Center at approximately 6:30 a.m. Sunday, according to a statement made by Sheriff John Wilcher
Lifesaving measures were attempted, but Nelson was pronounced deceased at the hospital.
Due to an ongoing investigation, only limited information is available at this time.
