HENRY COUNTY, Ga. – A Henry County minor is recovering in the hospital after being shot by a police officer during a domestic incident Friday night, authorities said.
According to the Georgia Bureau of Investigation, officers were called around 8 p.m. to a home on Crandon Court in McDonough. A mother told dispatchers she had locked herself in her bedroom because her son was armed with a knife and was trying to break in.
When officers entered the home, they found the boy upstairs still holding the knife, investigators said. During the encounter, one officer fired his weapon, hitting the minor.
The child was taken to a nearby hospital, though officials have not released his name or provided an update on his condition. No officers were hurt.
It is unclear if the boy advanced toward police before the shooting.
The GBI said it is investigating the case at the request of Henry County police. Once the probe is complete, the findings will be given to the Henry County District Attorney’s Office for review.
