Glynn County – Glynn County police arrested a Brunswick man two and a half years after they were called to his home in response to a rape. Glynn County Chief of Police Jacques Battiste told The Georgia Gazette, “our officers never stopped looking for this person.”
Felix Vences-Lazo, 35, was arrested on September 15 and charged with ‘Rape’ and ‘Incest’ under the Family Violence Act.
In March of 2020, Lazo’s wife called police after arriving home to find her daughter and her husband in the bathroom while the other children were locked outside. There was a condom on the countertop and the daughter was crying.
Upon questioning by her mother, the girl admitted her father hurt her.
Before police arrived, Lazo struck his wife across the face and fled. His brother-in-law attempted to stop him but was unsuccessful.
The girl told responding officers, “My father raped me.”
Lazo was booked into the Glynn County Jail more than two years later when he was arrested during ‘Operation Coastal Flood,’ a joint operation that included the pursuit of perpetrators of sex crimes and crimes against children.
Chief Battiste explained the gap between the reported rape and the arrest of Lazo. Police responded on March 11, 2020 and arrest warrants were issued the following day. “Attempts were made to locate Lazo at more than thirty locations,” according to Battiste, “exhaustive and extensive attempts were made to apprehend him.”
Lazo was ultimately located at a shopping plaza in the city of Brunswick last month. Chief Battiste specified that Brunswick has one police department, and may not have had the resources to arrest Lazo before ‘Operation Coastal Flood.’ Glynn County has several agencies including the Glynn County Police and the Sheriff’s Department.
Lazo remains in custody at the Glynn County Detention Center without bond.
Officer’s Narrative:

On 03/11/2020 I responded to [REDACTED BY AGENCY] in referance to a rape that just occurred. Upon my arrival, I observed a hispanic female crying on the front porch. The female grabbed me by the hand and escorted me inside where her juvenile daughter was wrapped in a blue bath towel.
Upon speaking to the juvenile she stated “my dad raped me”. The juvenile stated she wasn’t feeling well since she was on her menstrual cycle and her stomach hurt so she wanted to take a shower. While the juvenile was in the bathroom using the toilet her father (Vences, Felix) entered the locked bathroom. The juvenile said once her dad entered the bathroom he grabbed her wrist and fored her to the bathroom floor. The juvenile advised her father took her pants off and “pulled a baggie” out of his pocket. The juvenile said her father then proceeded to insert his pen*s into her vag*na. The juvenile said she told her father several times to stop and it was hurting her but her father told her to calm down she was over reacting. The juvenile said her father heard her mother come home and forced her to get into the shower.
The mother [VICTIM #1] said when she returned home from seeing her father in the hospital she obsserved her two younger children and the dog outside playing. [VICTIM #1] stated she asked her two juveniles why they were outside and they advised “Daddy locked us out”. [VICTIM #1] said she unlocked the front door could not find her husband. [VICTIM #1] said the only light that was on at the time was the bathroom light in the main hallway. [VICTIM #1] said she heard the shower water turn on and went to check on her dauther.
When [VICTIM #1] knocked on the door she heard her husband inside of the bathroom. [VICTIM #1] said she tried to open the door several times prior to forcing her way in. Once [VICTIM #1] opened the door she saw her husband sitting on the toilet and her daughter crying. [VICTIM #1] advised she then saw a condom laying on the bathroom sink and asked what was going on. [VICTIM #1] asked her daughter several times if her dad did anything and she shook her head yes.
[VICTIM #1] stated Felix got mad and pushed her out of the way and tried to run towards the front door. [VICTIM #1] chased Felix and tried to grab him but Felix turned around and struck [VICTIM #1] with a closed fist on the left side of her face. [VICTIM #1] said Felix ran out the front door which is when he got into a physical altercation with her brother outside. [VICTIM #1] said once Felix got free from her brother he got into his 2007 Chevy Silverado and left the location
My Supervisor arrived on scene and was advised of the events that occurred. I scured the inside of the house including the bathroom until the Criminal Investigation Divison arrived on scene.
