Gwinnett police use PIT maneuver to stop suspects who allegedly shot, carjacked victim

The following was taken from a press release distributed by the Gwinnett County Police Department on March 15, 2024:

GWINNETT COUNTY, Ga. – A PIT maneuver was executed on two suspects accused of carjacking and shooting a victim in a neighboring jurisdiction.

On February 26, at approximately 2:40 p.m., officers assigned to our West precinct, with assistance from our Flock cameras, located a stolen vehicle where the victim was carjacked and shot. The initial incident occurred inside the city of Suwanee on February 25.

Officers attempted to stop the suspect vehicle near South Berkely Lake Road and South Old Peachtree Road in unincorporated Norcross. The suspects failed to yield and attempted to elude officers.

A PIT maneuver was executed by officers, causing the suspect vehicle to come to a stop. The driver of the vehicle, later identified as James Steven Casey (age 19, Bloomingdale), and his passenger, Deaundrey Marques Everett (age 22, Decatur), fled from officers on foot. After a foot pursuit, both suspects were apprehended.

Both suspects are currently in custody at the Gwinnett County Jail. James was charged with Fleeing or Attempting to Elude a Police Officer, Reckless Driving, Theft by Receiving Stolen Property, Possession of a Firearm During Commission or Attempt to Commit Certain Crimes, Hit and Run, Willful Obstruction of Law Enforcement, Driving While License is Suspended, Possession of a Controlled Substance with Intent to Distribute, Unsafe Lane Change, Improper Window Tint and four gang charges.

Deaundrey was charged with Willful Obstruction of Law Enforcement, Possession of Marijuana with Intent to Distribute, and two gang charges. They are both facing additional charges from the previous incident in Suwanee.
