BANKS COUNTY, Ga. – A Hall County high school teacher and soccer coach is in custody after being charged with multiple felony offenses involving the alleged sexual assault of a child, authorities said.

Felipe Esteban Nunez was arrested Feb. 13 at his home in Gainesville, according to the Banks County Sheriff’s Office. Investigators said the arrest followed a report made by the alleged victim.

According to the sheriff’s office, the allegations involve incidents that reportedly occurred at a residence in Banks County between 2018 and 2019. Authorities said Nunez is accused of raping an underage family member during that time.

Nunez faces charges of rape, aggravated sexual battery and child molestation, officials said.

The alleged incidents occurred several years before Nunez was hired by the Hall County School District. School officials said he joined the district in 2024 as a Spanish teacher at Chestatee High School and served as the junior varsity boys soccer coach.

After his arrest, the district placed Nunez on administrative leave. District officials said they do not believe the charges involve any Hall County students and indicated the district will continue to monitor the legal process while taking the matter seriously.

The Banks County Sheriff’s Office said the investigation remains ongoing.
