GREENE COUNTY, Ga. – A Georgia high school football coach has been arrested after investigators said he choked and struck multiple players, prompting a criminal investigation and his removal from coaching duties.

Darius Terrell Robinson, 34, head football coach at Greene County High School, was charged with two counts of aggravated assault and one count of simple battery, according to the Georgia Bureau of Investigation. Robinson, of Union Point, was booked into the Greene County Jail on Thursday and is expected to appear in court Friday, the sheriff’s office said.

The Greensboro Police Department requested assistance from the GBI on Tuesday as it began investigating allegations involving several student-athletes.

“Our first and foremost priority is the safety and well-being of our children,” Greensboro Police Chief Rodricus Monford said in a statement. “We will work closely with law enforcement partners, including the GBI, to ensure a thorough investigation, and we will take appropriate action to protect our students. Any form of abuse or misconduct against minors will not be tolerated in Greene County.”

The Greene County School System confirmed Thursday night that Robinson has been relieved of his coaching duties and placed on administrative leave pending the outcome of both the district’s internal review and the criminal investigation.

“The safety and well-being of our students remain our first and highest priority,” Superintendent Aaryn Schmuhl said in a news release. He said school administrators took immediate action after receiving the allegations and are cooperating fully with law enforcement. The district declined further comment while the investigation remains active.

Robinson was hired as head coach in January. In announcing his appointment, the school district praised him as an accomplished coach with more than a decade of experience and cited his emphasis on discipline and leadership.

He took over a program that had posted three winning seasons under former coach Terrance Banks, now at Central Gwinnett. Greene County finished the season 2-9 and lost in the first round of the playoffs to Early County.

Before coming to Greene County, Robinson spent two seasons on Valdosta High School’s coaching staff as running backs coach. He previously served as head coach at Jay M. Robinson High School in Concord, North Carolina, compiling a 25-7 record from 2020 to 2022, and held assistant coaching positions in North and South Carolina.

The GBI said anyone with information about the case is encouraged to contact its Milledgeville regional office. Once the investigation is complete, the case will be turned over to the Ocmulgee Judicial Circuit District Attorney’s Office for review.
