Update – Bibb County Sheriff’s Office Investigators make an arrest in connection with the death investigation on Fulton Street. Patrol deputies made contact with a person of interest in connection to the investigation while on scene. Deputies transported the male to the Bibb County Sheriff’s Office Investigation Division. After further investigation, 34-year-old Marquiz Deonte Brooks of Macon was arrested in connection with the death of 28-year-old Ayana Smith. He was then transported to the Bibb County Law Enforcement Center just after 10:00 p.m..
Brooks has been charged with murder and aggravated assault. He is currently being held without BOND.
BIBB COUNTY, Ga. – The Bibb County Sheriff’s Office is investigating an incident that occurred outside a residence in the 300 block of Fulton Street. The incident was called into the Macon-Bibb Emergency 911Center just before 8:30pm Tuesday.
Deputies responded to the area to investigate a report of a person down. When deputies arrived on scene, they observed a 28-year-old female and her 2-year-old daughter suffering from a gunshot wound. Paramedics responded to the scene and transported both victims to a medical facility for treatment. According to medical staff, the 2-year-old victim is listed in stable condition. The adult female later identified as Ayana Smith was later pronounced deceased at the hospital. No one else was injured during the incident.
The circumstances surrounding this incident are currently under investigation. Additional information will be provided as it becomes available.
