RICHMOND COUNTY, Ga. – A man is facing charges in an Illinois federal court for transporting stolen Masters golf tournament memorabilia and merchandise across state lines from Georgia to Tampa, Florida. According to court documents, Richard Globensky allegedly transported items worth millions of dollars stolen from the Augusta National Golf Club “knowing the same had been stolen, converted, and taken by fraud.”

The thefts at the club and other venues occurred between 2009 and 2022. If convicted, Globensky will be ordered to forfeit all items and funds he received for them.

Legal records did not indicate if Globensky was an employee of the golf club. A United States Attorney’s Office spokesperson stated that he did not have information regarding the reasons the case was located in Illinois.

The Augusta National Golf Club is the venue for the Masters golf tournament. Fans enjoy purchasing exclusive items during the Masters that cannot be acquired online.

Garden gnomes from the 2016 tournament have become popular in recent years, as well as souvenir cups etched with logos.

Augusta National Inc., the owner of the club and the Masters, filed a federal lawsuit against a Florida-based golf memorabilia auction company for auctioning multiple items. They sued to cease the sale of a champion’s green jacket, two member jackets, a belt buckle, and silverware that were meant to remain on the premises.

This case is pending.
